How EAN-13 barcodes work
The EAN-13 barcode format represents a 13-digit Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) using 95 encoded modules. The last number is a mathematical check digit. This tool uses official EAN-13 parity, digit patterns and guard bars, and rejects incorrect check digits.
Enter a GS1-assigned GTIN that you are permitted to use. This calculator does not issue or register new product identifiers. The generated vector SVG can be resized without blurry bars, but you must preserve whitespace around the bars and verify the physical printed result.
Frequently asked questions
Does a generated EAN-13 mean a registered barcode?
No. You need an authorised product number. Read the GS1 barcode standard for proper use.
Can I use a 12-digit number?
Yes. If you already have the first 12 digits of your assigned GTIN, the tool computes the 13th check digit.
Will the SVG scan on every printer?
Not necessarily. Print sharp black bars on white, retain quiet zones and scan-test the actual label at its final size.
