How to estimate packaging costs for a Sri Lankan order
Start with the number of usable finished packages your customer needs. Enter the per-produced-unit cost for boxes or bags, printing, labels, protective materials and accessories. Add the packing labour per finished unit and any one-time setup, die, transport or delivery costs.
When production has a waste rate, the tool estimates extra units as finished quantity ÷ (1 − wastage rate), rounded up. Material and printing costs apply to that larger production run, while the entered packing labour applies to the finished packages. One-time costs are spread over the finished quantity.
Your break-even package cost is total job cost ÷ finished quantity. To estimate a unit selling price at a target gross margin, the calculator divides unit cost by (1 − target margin). Margin and markup are different; the target value here means margin as a percentage of the selling price.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator use today's packaging prices in Sri Lanka?
No. Packaging prices depend on materials, print method, order size, finish and supplier. Enter the costs from your own current supplier quote to avoid misleading price estimates.
How do I account for print setup or die charges?
Enter the full one-time charge under setup cost. It is divided across the final usable quantity, instead of treating it as a per-piece cost.
Does the wastage percentage increase every cost?
No. It increases the material, printing and accessory requirements. Packing labour is estimated for finished units only; one-time charges stay fixed.
Can I use this for paper bags, courier bags and printed boxes?
Yes. Change the cost categories to reflect whichever packaging product you are making or sourcing. The calculator does not verify supplier production processes.
