How to calculate CBM for shipping
CBM (cubic metres) is the volume occupied by a carton. Using centimetres: length × width × height × quantity ÷ 1,000,000. This tool calculates each carton type separately and adds them, including mixed dimensions.
For shipping, measure the external packed dimensions, including overhangs. Choose cm, mm, m, inches or feet. Results include total m³ and cubic feet.
Volumetric weight is derived from cubic centimetres divided by the editable volumetric divisor. If you enter gross weight for every carton type, this tool shows the greater of total actual weight and the calculated volumetric weight, for planning only. Couriers may round each carton individually.
Frequently asked questions
How much CBM is ten cartons sized 40 × 30 × 25 cm?
Each carton is 0.03 CBM, so ten cartons are 0.30 CBM in total before pallets or additional packing.
Can I add mixed cartons?
Yes. Add up to 20 carton types, enter their quantities, and download a CSV summary.
What divisor should I use?
A volumetric divisor of 5,000 cm³/kg is only an example. Your carrier and service agreement determine the correct divisor and rounding rules.
